Description

High-energy physics experiments inherently generate large amounts of digital data, which are stored using various methods. Yet every computer system that uses them needs to be designed with specific formats and structures that are used for their storage. However, introducing a programming interface, which enables to access and manipulate these data would allow to decouple the data storage systems from other applications, such as data acquisition control programs or programs for data processing. COMPASS API provides such interface, which may be used over an Ethernet network and is usable by computer programs regardless of the programing language used to develop them.
