"Study of centrality classes based on number of charged particles for the Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD) at NICA complex" Authors: Pedro Antonio Nieto Marín, Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa, México; Alexey Aparin, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research Abstract. We present a study of centrality classes based on number of charged particles for the Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD) at NICA complex. Precise determination of centrality will allow to chose ion collisions with different impact parameter thus allow to perform measurements in different initial conditions. Comparison of the same measurements in different centrality classes is important to study the QCD matter with respect to the geometric properties of the collision between nucleons. We compare the centrality classes for different set of experimental conditions: midrapidity regions, number of hits in TPC, transverse momentum of registered particles in the TPC sub-detector for Bi+Bi collisions at SNN = 7.7 , 9 and 9.46 GeV generated by the statistical Monte Carlo generator model: Ultrarelativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD). We present the procedure of collision centrality determination in MPD and its performance using the time projection chamber.
