Katherin Shtejer Diaz "Feasibility study and precision estimates for online polarimetry using inclusive π0 in the SPD experiment"

Europe/Moscow
Description

The Spin Physics Detector (SPD) will be installed in the second interaction point of the Nuclotron-based Ion Collider fAcility (NICA) at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, which will provide polarized proton-proton (deuteron-deuteron) collisions with the energy up to $\sqrt{s} = 27 GeV (\sqrt{s_{NN}}=13 GeV)$ and have luminosity up to $10^{32} cm^{-2}s^{-1}$. The primary goal of the SPD experiment is to study the polarized and unpolarized gluon structure of proton and deuteron, and its physics program includes investigation of many spin-related processes. The local online polarimetry is essential to keep track of polarization levels of the colliding beams during the period of data taking. At SPD, it will be performed with the inclusive $\pi^{0}$ production, the Beam-Beam Counters counting rates, and the small-angle neutron production measured in zero-degree calorimeter.

At the seminar, feasibility studies and precision estimates will be discussed for online polarimetry with the $p + p \to  \pi^{0} + X$ reaction, reconstructed in the end-caps of the electromagnetic calorimeter. Results obtained with Monte Carlo simulations using the SPDRoot software package will be presented.
