Description

In 2025, cancer remains a global challenge, with millions of new cases and hundreds of thousands of deaths expected. Key factors contributing to this burden include growing and aging populations, unhealthy lifestyle choices, and disparities in resources for cancer prevention and treatment. So, the number of new cases and deaths is increasing. Low-LET and high-LET radiation can play here a significant role due to their distinct mechanisms of eliminating cancer cells. And here high-LET radiation is typically more effective than low-LET radiation, owing to its greater relative biological effectiveness (RBE) and its capacity to induce more intricate and clustered DNA damage, which poses significant challenges for cellular repair. The objective of the study is to gain insights into mechanistic dimensions of radiation response related to radiation sensitization.
