Description
The technological changes at the turn of the 20th and 21th centuries have undoubtedly had a great impact on the development of science. There is a growing interest in the world of various computer data processing tools that offer the opportunity to streamline research using previously known and traditional methodologies. They integrate the researchers’ community and enable the analysis of so far inaccessible areas of the chosen field. The purpose of the speech is to present a free of charge and widely available program for natural language processing called Antconc. The creator of the program is Laurence Anthony, a professor at Waseda University in Japan. AntConc is available in the English language version on the author's website and it is compatible with Windows, Macintosh and Linux. It does not require installation, just running of the .exe file. The program supports only text files with a .txt extension, only encoded in UTF-8. Antconc offers a wide range of functions which I am going to introduce: concordance, concordance plot, file view, collocates, word list, keyword list, stoplist. The last function is used to determine which data should be excluded from the analysis process. The presented tool allows you to obtain basic statistics from the examined document, which enables you to generate the frequency lists and different index types. Antconc is compatible with calculation programs, so it is possible to present results in the form of a spreadsheet.
