SCIENCE BRINGS NATIONS TOGETHER
International Workshop “SPD at NICA-2019”

Europe/Moscow
Description
The workshop is next in the series of meetings on problems of  polarization phenomena in Particle and Nuclear Physics and Astrophysics related to the particles' spin and nucleon spin structure. This year it is devoted to the Spin Physics Detector (SPD) project at NICA. One of the main goals  of the workshop is to start building an international collaboration to design and build the SPD and perform experiments with it.

Exclusive processes at NICA and GPDs 20m
The possibility to investigate exclusive mesons production at NICA was studied. It seems that one of the essential reaction might be exclusive Phi or J/Psi production which is dominated by a gluon GPDs. The other important process is the exclusive Drell-Yan production in the proton-proton reaction which is determined by two GPDs. These reaction can be studied at NICA and give an additional excess to GPDs.

Production of muon pairs and vector mesons in ultraperipheral nuclear collisions. Challenge for SPD? 20m
The main goal of SPD is the investigation of lepton pairs with high invariant mass production in the collision of polarized protons. In the proposed talk I would discuss the production of μ+ μ− pairs and light vector mesons in electromagnetic fields of two colliding heavy nuclei and challenges which appear in this activity direction for SPD.

Current status of the HEP phenomenology at InSTEC 20m
We report the activities of our group in the field of HEP phenomenology. In particular we will show our results on the production of ρ0, Phi, and J / ψ mesons and discuss some of its implications and its possibilities of extension to other more complex scenarios as can be the case of ultraperipheral proton-nucleus collisions at relativistic energies, the broadening of the transversal momentum (pT) spectrum (the so called Cronin effect) with the focus on the nuclear modification factor taking into account the merging of the Matrix Elements (ME) approach calculated by the POWHEG in NLO with the Parton Shower (PS) as implemented in the PYTHIA event generator. Finally, we analyze the Z production in the collisions pPb and PbPb at 5.02 TeV with emphasis in the pt distribution, considering an extension of the Glauber model and analyzing the initial vertex.

Study of soft photon yield in pp and pA interactions at JINR 20m
Over 30 years there has been no comprehensive understanding of the mechanism of soft photons formation (energy smaller 50 MeV). Experimental data indicate an excess of their yield in hadron and nuclear interactions in comparison with calculations performed in QED. For a more thorough study of this phenomenon at the Nuclotron (JINR’s superconducting accelerator), preliminary measurements have been carried out with using an electromagnetic calorimeter based on BGO crystals. These results are consistent with the world ones. In JINR, in connection with the building of a new accelerator complex NICA, it has become possible to carry out such studies in pp, pA and AA interactions at energies up to 25 A GeV. Our group develops the conception of an electromagnetic calorimeter on type “spaghetti” based on gadolinium gallium garnet (GaGG) crystals, which have significantly lower the threshold for registration of photons. The first tests of electromagnetic calorimeters manufactured at JINR on the basis of the GaGG and a mixture of tungstate and copper are reported.

The Data Acquisition System for the COMPASS++/AMBER Experiment 20m
COMPASS++/AMBER experiment is a multipurpose spectrometer at the CERN SPS. It will be a place where variety of measurements with different beams and targets address fundamental questions of Quantum Chromodynamics. A development of the data acquisition had a challenge to fulfil requirements of a wide physics program with different event selection criteria on one side and a high event rate capability on the other needed for high precision measurements. The first part of the solution was to employ trigger less front-end electronics, which continuously digitizes detectors’ signals and streams zero suppressed data to the next stage of the data acquisition. The second part was a built-in digital trigger processor which reduces data rate to a level below 1 GB/s. The trigger processor and the event builder are being realized in cost effective configurable hardware using Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA) technology. The system will be capable to process 20 GB of data per second. The architecture of the DAQ and the state of the development will be presented.

Protons and Deuterons Polarization Control in the Transparent Spin Mode of the NICA collider 15m
The NICA collider with two solenoidal snakes allows one to operate with polarized protons and deuterons in the Transparent Spin mode when any polarization direction repeats after particle’s each turn, which means that the magnetic lattice of the collider is transparent to the spin. The schemes of protons and deuterons beam polarization control in SPD/MPD detectors are presented. Spin-flipping systems, as well as on-line polarization monitoring systems, are discussed which make it possible to carry out the experiments with polarized beams at the NICA collider at the new level of the accuracy.

        NICA absolute polarimeter 20m
The development of the absolute polarimeter APol with an internal polarized atomic hydrogen/deuterium jet target for NICA collider is presented. It is proposed to install the polarimeter into the “warm” gap of the collider ring arc. The polarized jet will cross both accelerated beams. The jet target is based on the classical atomic beam source principle. Expected target thickness of the jet in the interaction regions is 10^12 atom/cm^2. APol utilizes a reaction of elastic scattering of identical nuclei (protons or deuterons). The polarization of the accelerated beams is determined by use of an actual analyzing power which is measured in turn in scattering of unpolarized accelerated beams on the polarized atomic jet. The polarization of the atomic hydrogen/deuterium jet will be measured by Breit-Rabi polarimeter placed under the collider ring into a jet catcher volume.
